Pros: Speed, low distortion, small, front controls, high output. High SAF. Musicality!
Cons: None, but note optimization for speed (music), not sloggy LFE extension.
The Bottom Line: An entirely successful, stylish, well thought out smallish VERY musical (quick) sub with surprisingly high output.

| thesubaruguru's Full Review: Boston Acoustics PV1000 Subwoofer Speaker |
Fairly rare sub is a very successful attempt at Boston to produce a small footprint, attractive, ergonomic high-powered
clone of the Carver and 10" Vels.
Driver and passive are mounted perpendicular, so this thing can hop around if not spiked or Velcroed down, as Boston engineers soon found out!
Output is strong down to mid 20's, and quite lithe. This is a fine sub for music, as it's pacey and quite clean.
When pushed hard at the lowest octave there'll be some clattering, so I'm finding its limitations as a keyboard sub.
I have a second one for HT use in a large (15x25x10) undamped room, where I'm surprised to find its 30-60Hz output quite ample! I'll be adding the second though, to EQ a flatter response by placement geometry, and get a larger (12-15") Vel or similar for the keyboard, hoping to plumb lowest organ tones (16-25Hz).
Note that this sub uses a down-firing driver to help suppress overtone audibility, and full 10" passive radiator instead of open ports, so it does NOT "ruffle pants" via small bore high velocity antics. So it's not a silly "demo" toy.
Boston never figured out how to market this fine product successfully at $1199, perhaps partly because it seems small at its price point, so not many were sold. If that means that you stumble across a used one for $400-500 don't hesitate to grab it!
Beautiful real veneers, frontal controls, quiet operation only add to its abilities as a fine musical sub that'll play much more loudly CLEANLY than you'd expect!
