| nakia11's Full Review: JVC KS-FX470 Car Cassette Player |
I LOVE this head unit! I got it from Letsgodigital.com for $101 plus shipping! Killer deal! I have a 95 Honda Civic and the manufacturer head unit was HORRIBLE! I had a Sony before but it went kaput on me so I weighed my options and decided to give JVC a try. I compared it to similar Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine and Sony X-plod head units. I thought the X-plod products lacked clarity and highs. I compared them at Ultimate Electronics, Circuit City and Best Buy and was pleased with the fx470's performance. I've heard positive things about JVC's durability and they make excellent home stereo products so I felt good about my decision. Now that I have it installed I am SO happy! I have a huge collection of tapes and I didn't want to just throw them all away, but I knew it was time to upgrade to CDs. (Cassettes are like A-track now). The fx470 is a miracle product! I also bought the CH-X350 12 disc CD changer along with it for CD enjoyment. I also have some fairly new Infinity 352Is 6 1/2 speakers in the rear deck and Pioneer TA1666s in the front with stock tweeters in front as well. The installation was breeze. All in all, I was out of about 45 minutes, head unit and CD Changer installation. Didn't really need instructions so I don't know how clear they were. The fx470 and CH-X350 make a wonderful couple. They hook up directly with a J-link cable, the rest was just running the wires under my carpet to the trunk. (Couldn't fit it anywhere else that seemed safe)The fx470 has 45 watts per channel, plenty to give you a little bump in the trunk. I can really hear every instrument now, and can really bring out the bass on songs I never even knew had bass with the old system even with the new speakers. I usually keep the bass on zero, so that lets you know it has plenty more juice. It has bass, treble, front, back, left and right speaker adjustment "SEL" options. (-6 to 6). A cool feature concerning this is the SCM or sound control memory. You can create your own preset sounds for different types of music. You can change the presets; POP, BEAT and SOFT to fit your own tastes by adjusting the bass treble and "loud option". Or you can turn it off "SCM OFF" and adjust that as well. I love this for the fact that I listen to a wide variety of music from R&B, gospel, pop, acapella and classical, to name a few. 18 tuner presets: FM 1, 2, 3 and AM. This unit has a powerful tuner. Stations I couldn't pick up before come in crystal clear now. It is a full logic head unit so everything is touch button. Detachable face. It also has a flip down face (Cool feature) for cassette loading. Dimmer for brightness of face, on or off. Clock. Dolby does very well in controlling the "hiss" you get from cassettes. I noticed on other systems when you select the Dolby function the sound becomes muffled and draggy sounding but not with the fx470. It eliminates the hiss and still keeps the same volume and clarity giving the best sound possible to your beloved cassettes. I love the changer functions above all and the fact that the remote controls EVERYTHING! You can switch from tuner to cassette to CD without leaning forward to your head unit. Just lay back and relax. Remote functions let you switch from CD to CD in the 12 disc changer, switch from song to song, and fast forward or rewind CDs and Cassettes. Volume control, SCM presets, tuner seek, presets and band. "ATT" tap for mute and hold down to turn of head unit. I just can't say enough about this unit! Now I find myself wanting to just drive around and listen to my new stereo! I'm now in the process of building up my collection of CDs. I miss the price of cassettes but the quality and durability of CDs is incomparable! I hope this review helped. Give the fx470 a try, you WILL NOT be disappointed!!
