| nhawkGT's Full Review: Boston Acoustics FX9³ Coaxial Car Speaker |
Here's the situation: I was in the market to upgrade my factory speakers. My rear deck holds 6x9" so I was looking for a well-rounded speaker that could fill the soundstage from my rear deck. My budget was around $150/pair.
What I liked about the Bostons were its very rich, full-sounding music. Listening to pop, rock, and techno all sounded beautiful and well-balanced. When I began listening to jazz, the clarity and accuracy really shined. I compared these to the Eclipse 83941 (3-way, 6x9's). The Eclipse had a lot of low-end sound, reproducing bass fairly well. Unfortunately, the highs were very bright, and I knew over an extended listening period, this would hurt my ears.
When I switched on the FX93's, I knew these were the speakers for me. The highs were very clear, the mids were full, and I could hear more MUSIC. The lows were lacking somewhat, but decent enough to hold me over. Sold.
Speakers are a very personal choice, since different people have different tastes. But if you're looking in the $150/pair range, I'd highly recommend you demo these speakers.
