Pros: Rewind time is pretty fast, and the picture quality is pretty good.
Cons: The construction is really cheap and flimsy.
The Bottom Line: Stay away from this and all of Sony's mainstream consumer products. They only offer 90 day warranties and don't live up to Sony's reputation for building quality products.

| chungang's Full Review: Sony SLV-N51 VHS VCR |
If you're comparing a few different brands of cheap VCR's, you might want to skip on the Sony SLV-N51. I bought the unit based on Sony's brand reputation, as I have a bunch of the older Sony items which have proved themselves as bulletproof consumer electronics. Sony's newer items are just terrible, as you would expect being made in small towns in China and Mexico.
Although others have mentioned this unit has a pretty fast rewind time and picture quality is pretty good, you can get better quality from other manufacturers.
I had my SLV-N51 for just three weeks before the loading mechanism jammed. I was told that it was a manufacturing defect and that they would replace it with a new one. However, I had to PAY sony $10 to fix the thing (to cover shipping) and it took over a month to get the unit back from Sony. Sony has one of the worst warranties in the business, with only a 90 day guarantee on most products and a requirement that you send the item to them in Texas. You can't take it to the retailer you bought it from, and if you take it to a local service center, they will just ship it to Texas and bill you for the shipping. I don't see why I need to PAY them to fix a defect in their product! In addition, I was without a VCR for an unacceptably long time.
You might want to take a look at some Panasonic models as they are better built and shouldn't give you a problem. This unit is just plain terrible and has completely turned me off from future Sony products, as long as they plan to build low-quality garbage. Sooner or later, people are going to catch on, Sony.
