| glock-user's Full Review: KLH ASW10-120 Subwoofer Speaker |
I purchased this sub because it was powered and I could afford it. I got the whole thing for $119 from Amazon.com using a coupon from dealprovider.com. I have been EXTREMELY impressed with it. I know good speakers. I use Polk audio as my center, front, and surrounds. I can tell you that this sub will more than fit the bill in a home theater setting. I needed something to give me that movie theater "rumble" on the low end without breaking the bank. The case is sturdy. It has both high and low level pass through. I would suggest using it with the RCA cable instead of pasing through the amplifier. Get a good quality cable for it.
I have found the sound to be more than I expected and it is highly adjustable with level controls, phase switch, variable crossover, ect. It works well for music, but I use it for DVD soundtracks mostly. You will not find a better value for the money period. KLH has been very responsive to my questions. A best buy in the powered sub category for sure.
One important thing to remember about a sub is that if your amp is set up properly, it should not be firing all the time. You want a sub to do what it does best, produce thunder. If you try to send a wide range of frequencies to your sub, you will have a muddy, thumpy mess, and the sound will depress you. Set the crossover to match your setup and you will love it!
