| gdawson44's Full Review: KLH ASW10-120 Subwoofer Speaker |
I didn't think a 10" speaker was going to add anything to my regular system, which had a pair of 15" woofers. Boy was I way wrong. This sucker has enough gusto to shake the walls and blow your beanie off - to the point of insanity. Quite unbelievable for the price range.
This model features several methods of hookup including standard RCA cable or regular speaker wire. All things considered, a special RCA subwoofer wire rendered the best results on my system (although the cabling is rather pricey - regular RCA cables don't work correctly). Unit has an auto on/off mode however, sometimes it takes a little bit more juice to get it to turn on than you would think. Other features include a crossover setting and volume knob: although I had heard many people blew these subs up by being a little too liberal with these settings. It's a SUB, not a bass cabinet, and keeping it under about 80Hz and half-mast on the volume has given me no problems and furious bass. Also includes a phase switch for unusual room placement although the effect is nearly indetectable.
As stated before, the "manual" is sparse and only includes simple connection diagrams, otherwise, it's one of the best 'bang for the buck' deals I've ever had.
