scoob-5's Full Review: BIC America DV-62SI Main / Stereo Speaker
It's hard to express just how good these speakers are - but the other reviewers really have done a great job. I have a professional-grade theater in my basement (see some of my other reviews on my Epson projector and the B&W 602S3 speakers) and I thoroughly enjoy listening to music and movies (and some TV) with pristine quality. So now that the kids are old enough to watch some educational TV, I decided to upgrade the living room setup (from an old Toshiba 27" and some KLH indoor/outdoor speakers).
First upgrade was the 42" 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV (hey, I need to watch the TV up there, too). Next was the speakers and DVD player. I did some extensive research on speakers that would be relatively inexpensive and still give excellent sound. Based on my experience with the BIC America DV52Si Adattos (see that review) I was already predisposed to BIC as a brand. I must have read through over 30 reviews of the DV62 speakers and I also listened to over 20 other brands in various stores. In the end, the DV62Si was the answer (as I expected it might be initially).
I read many reviews talking about the crossover upgrade to these speakers since the crossover is the only weakness of these speakers (see the audioreview.com site). I opted not to since these speakers would not be used in a critical listening area (I have the B&Ws for that). However, from everything I've read, if you plan on using these as your primary speakers for an audio system - and you have great ears for audio recordings - you might consider this inexpensive upgrade to potentially increase your satisfaction.
So now that they are set up and broken in (we use them for music and TV/DVDs about 8 hours/day) I have to say that these speakers rival the B&Ws for video recordings/broadcasts. Blasphemy, you say?! Possibly, but man these things really hold their own under most circumstances. And the price differential really goes a long way toward the comparison. Audio-wise they are not perfect, but unless you A?B switch them between some high-quality reference speakers, you aren't likely to notice (m)any deficiencies.
