A Sub or not a sub????

Pros: Sound quality, Great bass, compact, build, brand, price
Cons: not recommended to put in front.
The Bottom Line: If you want quality bass sound, you don't need a sub anymore, just get these speakers. Don't take my word for it, go sit in a car with these fitted.

Alpine have always been a very good brand for car audios, it also provides a range of quality products suitable for every car enthusiast.
Recently, I have decided to upgrade my sound system in the car by adding more bass to my factory standard system. My budget for the upgrade was about 800 dollars. So I went to all kinds of car audio places to shop for a good sound package for my car. I was hoping to buy a good cd receiver and a nice Sub with a mono amplifier for it. When the sales man tried to work out a package for me, it seems to be way over my budget, somewhere near 1000 dollars. When I nearly gave up on my hope for a good cd receiver to go for a cheaper one to compensate for the price of the amp and sub.
One day I went to the Alpine dealer and asked for their advice for a package with cd receiver, good amp and sub under 800 dollars. They suddenly told me to get one of the expensive cd receiver with a pair of Alpine SPR 172 B speakers.
I was puzzled, since I asked for the sales man for an amp and sub. He explained it to me that the Alpine R series speaker is like a subwoofer but without the need of an amp.
At first I didn't believe it, but later when he took me to one of the show car in his workshop I relized that it sounded very like a subwoofer. The bass was very solid and it also produced a very crisp sound when listening to vocal musics. Therefore I decide to install the system. The package itself cost me about 550 not including installation. I was surprised that it cost less than 600 dollars for the sound that I wanted.
Now, everytime my friends sit into my car they loved the sound of my sub.(he he, they don't even know it was the pair of speakers behind their ears.)
