The Bottom Line: This a great VCR for the Audio/Video Enthusiast as long as you don't record on another VCR and play it on this one.

First of All- It's not a Dual Deck, it's an SVHS editing deck! I own this VCR and am a fan of SVHS. If you must use video tape, the this is the only way to go. Recording on this VCR gives you great picture quality and also gives you lot of options for editing it later. Probably the neatest feature about this VCR is the editing features. You can record a different audio track or you can add a different picture anywhere on the tape that you want. When playing back rented movies, it makes them look better (this is not an exaggeration). I compared the video picture from a regular VCR to the GoVideo one and it was more vibrant and sharper, using the same video. There is only one reason to buy the JVC over this unit and that is the addition of a Flying Erase Head on the JVC unit. The Flying Erase Head offers seamless cuts between recordings. The SDV-650 does not have this feature. I have only one complaint about this unit and that is that it doesn't play tapes recorded from another VCR very well. The picture looks fine, but the audio can have "pops" in it. If you turn "Hi-Fi" off, the "pops" go away, but that decreases the frequency response of the sound. If you don't record on another VCR and try and play it on this VCR than this is a great buy.
