| jetbluefan1's Full Review: Aiwa CSD-A120 Cassette/CD Boombox |
Aiwa isnt a very popular company such as Sony, Samsung, JVC and Casio. However, I have found it to bring high quality products that sometimes even operate better than the bigger companies. My wife and I were at Best Buy looking for a CD player when we ran across the Aiwa CSD-A120. My wife told me that it would be nice to have another CD player or boombox for the kitchen. My wife likes to cook, so she said that she wanted a CD player to listen to her favorite CDs, tapes and radio stations. It was only around $90 which is a decent price for a brand new model.
The Boombox
The boombox is really nice. Its silver and has two speakers -- one on the left, another on the right. Its not too big and can easily be stored in a small closet or a drawer. It also doesnt way much at all and is easy to transport from one place to another.
The boombox is very durable. All pieces have been installed very well and I have never had problems with any pieces coming off. The Aiwa CSD-A120 has a handle to carry it by from one place to another. There is also a locking CD lid and tape lid which assures that the CD or tape wont fall out or stop playing.
CD Player, Tape Player, Radio
Like most CD players, this CD player can hold only one CD at a time. Complete sound systems can hold up to about six CDs at a time so you dont have to get up and change the CD when you want to listen to a different CD. These buttons and features are available for the CD player:
Skip
Search
Repeat
Stop
Prog
Play/Pause
There is a little LED screen which shows which track on the CD is playing and a time display. The CD player offers very high sound quality. There isnt really any extra sound in the background. The speakers amplify the sound well and can amplify enough for music at a party.
There is also a tape player which works relatively well. Ive never had any problems rewinding a tape, fast forwarding a tape or inserting it. Here are some buttons and features for the tape player:
Stop
Fast Forward
Rewind
Play
A great feature of the tape player is that you can record tapes. The tape player also offers high sound quality for modern tapes. However, Ive noticed that it doesnt operate well with older tapes. Usually the tape will get tangled or mess up. Ive actually experienced a tape which stopped in the middle of the song on this boombox.
There is also a radio which plays AM & FM radio. Sometimes the antenna is needed to get the best sound quality. Unfortunately, there is no digital tuner. You have to turn the knob manually to which station you want to listen to.
One thing that is really missing from the boombox is that there isnt a bass.

My Opinion
I have found the boombox to be very easy to use. No having to press extra buttons of do anything extra to make something work. With a touch of a button, you can have the music playing in no time.
The Aiwa CSD-A120 is a good boombox. Some positive features about the boombox is that is has high sound quality for tapes that arent old, or any CDs that arent old. It also plays the radio stations very well. A trio boombox which plays CDs, tapes and the radio for about $90 isnt bad! I also like that the boombox is very durable and easy to bring from one place to another.
There are only a couple of negatives in the boombox. There is no digital tuner which makes it easier to set certain stations on a certain control. Instead, you have to find a station manually and sometimes you have to be very patient with that. The other negative is that there is no bass. For rap and rock, a bass is just needed. However, all-in-all, the Aiwa CSD-A120 is a good value!
