| mdellarc's Full Review: Olympus Camedia D-360L Digital Camera |
D-360L is a good entry-level digital camera. It less than $300 it is very affordable. It is not very innovative, but it is a solid camera that is very sturdy. The camera is lightweight, and portable yet durable enough to hold up during rigorous travels. The lens are glass rather than plastic. It also includes advanced controls, as well as a digital telephoto zoom. I got my money's worth in battery power, because the D-360L's nickel-metal-hydride batteries last through almost 1,000 shots.
The image quality is also above average. It takes 1,280-by-960-pixel photos. I was impressed when it compared the D-360L's images to those of similarly priced cameras. Indoor shots, Which usually don't come out well with inexpensive camera, showed sharp contrast and bright color. The camera's auto focus produces adequate images for most eyes, but if you're a photo perfectionist, you can still tinker with manual adjustments, such as spot metering, ISO settings, exposure, and white balance. A slow synchro mode for night shots is one of six flash modes included. And depending on the level of quality you're looking for, the camera offers five image-compression settings.
It also includes some Free software. The package includes the Olympus' CamediaMaster software for acquiring and editing digital photos. I recommend acquiring extra software, such as utilities for stitching together panoramic shots. I should note that you don't need extra software for basic shots.
The 8MB SmartMedia card that comes with the Olympus ranks as more than adequate. But it is slow, so you should expect so processing time and a bit of a wait.
