| mtodde's Full Review: JBL Power P-7532 Coaxial Car Speaker |
I replaced the 4 factory 6x8 speakers in my 2002 Mustang with these 5x7 JBLs. Listening to the stereo before and after, you would swear I put bigger speakers in, not smaller!
Originally I wanted the Polk EX Series 6x8, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Crutchfield told me they were backordered for 6 more weeks, so I went with the JBL Power Series. I also replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine CDA 7893.
For a 5x7, the bass response is outstanding. Due to the plastic door mounts, I had a lot of vibration with lower frequencies. I used Dynamat inside both doors and Cascade Audio VBlok VB-5 gasket material between the speakers and the mounting brackets; together that eliminated 99.5% of the vibrations. I can play the same music at louder volumes with no vibrations on just about every CD I own. With some music I can shake the car!
The high end is pretty good as well, although you cannot rotate the tweeters the way you can on some of the newer high end speakers. The upper frequencies do tend to be overpowered a bit by the mid and low; most head units can help you to reshape your sound to compensate for this.
Considering that I paid $80 a pair from Crutchfield I am very, very happy.
