Pros: Lots of affordable power for pushing a subwoofer.
Cons: Its Strictly a sub amp. 1 strong channel is all you get
The Bottom Line: You cant find a better bang for your buck when powering a Subwoofer

| thetaxiguy's Full Review: JBL BP600.1 Car Amp |
My goal was to find an affordable amp that could push 1 really good sub woofer. After looking over many, many, amps I finally found this little beauty.
The Problem with all other amps is this: Here is the situation: All of the really good subs are Dule voice coil. This means the subwoofer is wired like 2 speakers in one. So already you are looking for an amp that can push 2 speakers. Automatically you would assume that a 2 cahnnel amp is the way to go. This is a bad assumption. Most 2 channel amps in this price range will give you 100 to 120 watts RMS at 4 ohms to each of the two channels (a cahnnel for each voice coil). To put it in perspective you are looking for at least 200 to 250 watts RMS for each voice coil.
With this Jbl amp you dont get the seprate little channels. All of your power is lumped into one big channel. This channel for the same price pushes out twice or better the watts a 2 cahnnel would.
You could really get into a long discussion/arguement about ohms and watts and what you can draw out of an amp.
Let me just put it like this. IF you are looking to power subwoofers you should really look into this amp. IF you are wanting to power other speakers in your car for highs this is the farthest thing from what you should be looking at.
Besides its Fantastic sound and Power, here are some nice features about the amp:
Most amps require you to run a remote wire from your radio to the amp. (this is to tell the amp when to turn on) This amp DOES NOT require this wire to be run. It can tell when a signal is being piped in to it and turns its self on. Already this has just made the install process easier.
It has a built in bass boost. This is nice to have because it lets you keep your radio's bass level down at a lower level. This keeps your door speakers and other speakers from distorting with bass when cranking up the volume. Bass taken out at the head unit may be put back in a the amp.
I am not a professional car audio person. I dont enter my stereo into competitions. I am just the average joe that likes some bass behind his music. For a person of my skill level this amp was Simple to install and it has MORE than enough power. For 300 dollars I built a system that my truck can not handle. I can turn it up and the sound from the amp and speaker is very clean and very loud. The problem comes in when the bass finds every loose piece of plastic etc in my truck. I hear rattles from the doors the dash etc.
They also make a Jbl BP1200.1 with twice this ones power. I cant imagine what you would need that for.
