Pros: VERY STABLE - HAS NEVER SKIPPED NICE REMOTE & DISPLAY
Cons: AUDIO QUALITY USING FM MODULATOR NOT QUITE PERFECT
The Bottom Line: Buy one, but if your main stereo/radio/amp can use "line-level" inputs don't get the FM modulator version.

| tjustice's Full Review: Pioneer CDX-FM1277 12-Disc CD Changer |
Twelve CDs seems like a lot to me for a car unit and I'm thrilled that I waited until these things got so affordable. The current units are also much better at handling the road-shock that gave earlier changers so much trouble. This model certainly lives up to that claim. The changer body/chassis doesn't seem that stout to me, but I have driven some poor roads in a truck with a stiff "towing package" suspension and have never once been able to make it skip.
Running this unit on Random Mode, my playlist is so much more diverse than the local radio stations those DJs should be embarrassed.
This unit proved very easy to install and has performed flawlessly. The "CD Name" feature for displaying information on individual disks is easily used and very helpful when trying to locate something in particular. The display is easily read, though for bright daylight conditions it's important to locate it directly in front of you since it can be difficult to read at much of an angle.
I would have preferred to purchase a unit with the direct "line-level" connections (typically RCA jacks) but the factory radio in my '99 Ford F150 pickup lacked the correct inputs. However, even using the FM modulator, it sounds quite good, but I suspect a direct connection would have been just a bit better. It makes for a more complicated installation unless you have compatible radio/amplifier unit, but I would rate this system PERFECT if I'd been able to connect it in that fashion. Even still, I no longer dread long road trips.
One additional hint: If you want to listen to a conventional radio station, TURN THE CHANGER OFF. The modulator, when powered up, degrades the FM reception and obliterates any AM signal.
