Pros: Great price for a good receiver
Cons: Lack of S-video
The Bottom Line: Get it if you want surround and you're on a budget. Avoid it if you're looking for color coding or high end features such as THX.

| caemery's Full Review: Kenwood VR-505 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I purchased the VR-505 at Sam's Club after shopping around for a surround receiver in the $150 range. I knew Kenwood was a good brand, so I got it. After unboxing the unit I proceeded to hook up my components. I did like that it had enough inputs to hook up a satelite receiver, dvd player, cd player, record player and a future cassette player. Most receivers in this price range do not have that many inputs. I also liked that it had a fiber optic input as well as coaxial digital. My only complaint is that it did not have any S-video inputs. That would have made some of my installation easier. The speaker clips are fine, and it seems that the unit does provide ample power to the speakers. After turning it on, it did take some time to learn how to change between components and A/V source, but after an hour or so messing around, I pretty well had the hang of it. My wife even learned the rudimentary elements and can switch between components.
