| bem2's Full Review: Yamaha NS-6390 Main / Stereo Speaker |
I purchased these Yamaha 6390 speakers as an upgrade to my Yamaha "out-of-the-box" surround sound system. I was looking for an inexpensive way to improve the sound quality of my surround sound system, so I purchased a good Yamaha center channel speaker and the 6390's. These puppies are powered by a 70 watt Yamaha receiver (by the way, Yamaha makes excellent quality stereo equipment for the price). I compared the sound from these speakers to several other much more expensive speakers and I was thoroughly impressed with the sound quality. The only minor down side to these speakers is the bass is not very powerful, but it shouldn't matter if you have a powered subwoofer. (I also upgraded my subwoofer from 50 watts to 150 watts and it makes a tremendous difference!!) Since the bass was not a major consideration, I was looking for speakers that could create good highs. There's no doubt about it, these speakers are a wonderful addition to my sound system. I placed them on speaker stands and at 140 watts, they are more than powerful enough for my needs and to me, are just as good an alternative as purchasing floor standing speakers costing as much as $400 or so.
