| wickedpete's Full Review: Yamaha HTR-5450 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I thought I was just buying a great receiver to put together my theatre system, but I got a control center, too! This is set up to have EVERYTHING connect into it and have one out to the TV. I have the DVD, satellite, Dreamcast and VCR going to this and one out to the TV. When you switch to the DVD audio, it switches the video too! Problem is, you have to have all the in/out using the same connections (i.e. s-video or rca). If you have rca in and s-video out, it won't work.
But why you really buy a receiver is for the sound right? You will not be disappointed. It has different surround settings for watching/listening to TV, movies, music and playing games. There are connections for optical (tos-link) connection, digital coax or rca. There is only one digital coax, but 4 optical... plenty (provided optical remains a popular choice for component manufacturers). It has audio outs to two (each) front and rear, center and RCA to the sub. There is also two out to a "B" in case you want to run some speaker to another room (I ran some into the bedroom).
It pushes out plenty of power to my JBL NSB-1 surround speakers to make my walls shake. Truly a match make in heaven.
The remote is sleek and is logical to use. Is a universal, but doesn't operate all of my components.
Lastly, Yamaha has a very established name in this arena, so you have that to stand behind as well. You shouldn't have any hesitation with buying this receiver.
