| chexi's Full Review: Yamaha HTR-5460 5.1 Channels Receiver |
About 6 months ago I set about on a journey to replace my aging Sony 1040 receiver with a digital receiver. At the time I knew nothing about switchable receivers and very little about digital. On a recommendation from some friends, one of the brands I investigated was Yamaha. The Yahama 5460 had all the features I was looking for (DD 5.1, DTS, enough digital inputs-4, on-screen display, and after I'd thought about it, full audio-video switching). The price was right too. For about $360 delivered, I couldn't beat the feature set. To my pleasant surprise, the sound quality of the unit is superb. I no longer have that annoying hiss that is omnipresent on so many other brands, a la my old Sony. DVD's are incredible on this receiver, and music is very good as well.
Presently, I have it paired with Klipsch RF3's mains, Klipsh Bookshelf rears, an old Ventura center and a Yamaha sub. I'm not a bass freak, so the sub is fine, although there are certainly better one's out there. It is digitally connected to my Pioneer 444 DVD player, Sony 300 Disc Changer, Philips TiVo Satellite Receiver, and my Home Theater PC (using all 4 of its digital inputs: 3 optical, 1 coax).
All in all, this receiver blew anything away I compared it against that was even close to its price range. Don't overlook this receiver.
The only complaint I have is that I can't effectively operate my Cd player (advanced functions) with the remote.
