| enoeske's Full Review: Yamaha NS-P220 Speaker System |
While shopping for my receiver i decided to get speaker (logically) at the same time. After listening to many brands it was between these and some JVC speakers. The Yamaha speakers were a complete kit while the JVC's were sold two at a time. The yamaha's were only $200 and the JVC's were $115 for two. Although ultimatly the JVC might have been a better sounding speaker i just didnt have that kind of cash. i could afford $200 but the JVC were $230 just for four, i would still need a sub and center.
I got them home and hooked them up, and was suprised at how they sounded. they are very clean sounding and blend very well from speaker to speaker. the sub is decent. i think i should get a little more powerful one. the speakers handle up to 100 watts and the sub is 50 watt powered. the speakers come with their own wall mounts which i found very convienient since buying good ones can run at $50 bucks for two. the mounts are basically one piece of metal bent with a hole in it for a screw to go through into the speaker. however that is all you really need. two screws go into the wall on the flat part and then it curves out and downward. the speaker screws in and then is adjustable side to side and also can slide up and down the screw slot to adjust upward or dowward as needed. there are only two of these mounts unfortunately and the other two are not as good.
They are just a piece of metal that screws into the wall and then the speaker screws into it. you cannot adjust the speaker angles at all. however the kit does include five metal stands for the speakers. these are roughly a half circle with a slit in them for a screw to attach to a speaker and then speaker angles can e adjusted. the problem is they must sit on something and if you dont have anything on the sides of the TV to put them on, it can be difficult to find something to put them on.
These speaker sound quite exceptional for the size and price. i did not expect them to sound that great because it was a full kit for $200 but they really outperformed my expectations. i havent had any problems with them yet.
The speaker wires included in the kit were unusable for a home theater so pick up some better stuff.
