Pros: Cheap! Full of Features. Great starter DV camcorder. 26x zoom really works great.
Cons: Low light not great. Menu is difficult to use. Zoom slide unnatural.
The Bottom Line: For those that want to start on the path of DV recording this is a great deal. With all its great features, you can't go wrong.

| Swinghi's Full Review: Sharp VL-WD255U Mini DV Camcorder |
We are expecting our first child in March and I wanted a DV camcorder so I could make VCD's for peoples CD-roms and DVD players. I basically looked for the cheapest yet still made by a reputable company. I got this one for $450 with no tax or shipping from amazon.com. But it becomes $350 after Sharp’s $100 mail in rebate. I was kind of weary because when I went to their site I couldn't find any accessories for the model. After a bit of searching I was able to find the batteries that I was looking for. (Actually you can find batteries for half the cost on eBay) So far I have been very impressed with all the features such as the Cat Eye (dark shooting) and the Gamma which brightens up low light situations. These features are important because you are rarely shooting at noon on a sunny day. I also like the ability to take still pictures with the camera. It is obviously no 2.3 megapixel or anything like that but it does the job and if you are not going for print out quality, you can leave your good camera at home. It would have been really nice to get a light for the camera too but for the price it was a great deal.
