Pros: Great Bang for your Buck!
Cons: Small buttons on remote, not backlit. Throw out the cheesy wires.
The Bottom Line: An outstanding buy. If you are new to home theater and don't want to spend a lot of money, you won't be disappointed.

| angiodan's Full Review: Kenwood HTB-504 Theater System |
I have to admit that I have always been skeptical of the whole 'Home Theater in a Box' concept. My experience has been that when everything is packaged together, it's usually cheap. The only cheap thing I can say about this system was the enclosed wires. Throw them out, put down a few bucks for good shielded cables. I went for this system since it included the new PL II format, and let me tell you, my VHS tapes and video games sound great. There is pretty decent separation with a normal analog stereo input. The DD sounds fantastic as well. The pod race from TPM sounded incredible. The receiver has a great amount of inputs, including two optical audio, it is easy to set up, and the speakers do a pretty decent job. Future Digital TV buyers, this receiver doesn't have component video outs. Keep that in mind if you are thinking of going in that direction soon. The remote buttons are a little small, and it would be nice if they were backlit, but hey, for $400, you can't go wrong. It packs a good punch. For cables, I purchased a Monster Cable Home Theater in a Box set. For $60, you get everything you need for hookup, with the Monster quality. Enjoy!
