Why I bought my Kenwood HTB-504
I purchased a DVD player and I wanted a good sound system, but I did not want to spend a fortune. The Kenwood Home Theater in a Box system looked like a good compromise between quality and price.
My Experience
I found the quick assembly guide that came with the system very helpful in setting up my new sound system. I put in my first movie and was amazed by the sound that came out. I was grinning from ear to ear as I enjoyed my new sound system. About three weeks later, I turned on the system and there was no sound. I checked every plug, flipped dials and switchs, pushed buttons, and nothing happened. I took it back to the store where I bought it, and they gave me a new box. I took the new one home, plugged everything back in and I have not had any problems since. I have used the system for a little more than a year now, so I hope this new receiver continues to last.
What I like about it
I cannot believe the quality of sound that comes out of the system. I enjoy the "thump" of a good subwoofer and the Kenwood subwoofer definitely delivers. My wife complains because she can feel the bass through the floor, which I think is a good thing. In my opinion, the key to a good sound system is a good subwoofer. Some of the cheaper theater systems have small subwoofers with very little power going to them. The subwoofer that comes with the HTB-504 has more than enough power to rattle through your house.
The Kenwood system delivers a full range of sound from the high notes to the low notes. The sound is crisp and clean. I notice very little distortion even when the system is cranked up. The surround sound is very realistic, especially if you configure the speakers correctly. The system allows you to specify how far away each speaker is from the intended audience, which allows the system to properly configure the surround sound to the size of your room and the position of your speakers.
My Concerns
I must admit having a receiver go bad within 30 days make me a little nervous. I cannot complain about the price, but I wonder about the quality of the receivers since my first one went bad within 30 days.
Overall
At the time I bought my Kenwood HTB-504 it was one of the least expensive systems available for the number of watts it delivered. For the price, it was definitely worth it and the sound is unbelievable. If you buy one from a place that offers an extended warranty, I would definitely recommend it based on my experiences.
