Pros: Easy application, spread it and forget it! The liquid dries and the fleas disappear!
Cons: A few dollars more but a wiser choice, and better bargain in long run!
The Bottom Line: As a pet owner whose dog is considered part of the family, I highly recommend Frontline Plus. It's safe, easy to use, and rids your dog of fleas.
gabe800's Full Review: 6 Month Frontline Plus for Dogs 45 88lb
Ok, it may sound a little corny, but it is catchy and most of all, it's true. For a long time, I was duped into thinking that generic type brands of flea preventatives would do the same work as Frontline Plus. I just didn't want to spend the few extra dollars if the less expensive products that were plentiful in "discount" stores would perform just as well, and keep our beloved Australian Shepherd flea free. Behind our house is a wooded area, in which our Aussie enjoys roaming. With the woods comes the fleas! However, over time with all those generic product totals adding up, and not preventing fleas as promised, I decided to try Frontline Plus. Our vet tech recommended it. She told me once I tried it she knew I'd probably want to purchase on a regular basis. I started off with the 3 dosage pack, which is good for exactly 3 months, one application every 30 days. I think the better buy is to purchase the 6 month supply. You can probably save a few dollars by just beginning with the 6 month supply, and sticking with it. The 3 month supply was $49.70 and 6 month runs $82.90 at our vet's office. I am sure prices vary, but this product is something that really needs to be used year round so your savings would add up with dosage for 6 month time period.
When you are trying coax a hyper and wiggling 50 pound dog into standing completely still while you attempt to part her long black fur on the back of her neck, seek out the depths of her skin and apply medicated drops you will appreciate the simple, easy and clever packaging of the Frontline applicators. They help make the process a little smoother and go a little more quickly.
I applied the first tube and our happy go lucky dog was not phased. She continued being the same barking, chewing, herding, jumping up and knocking everything over dog as always, so I knew there was no negative reaction to the medication. This was a relief to know, because I didn't want our dog to exchange a flea problem for a skin irritation problem or for an allergic reaction. The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are fipronil and S-methoprene. They are ingredients strong enough to kill all of the fleas quickly but keep your pet safe. Be sure to read the directions and all packaging content carefully and make sure that you use the Frontline Plus for the appropriate weight of your pet. If your pet borderlines a certain weight, check with your vet regarding which dosage to use. Our Aussie generally weighs between 45 and 50 pounds so I was careful to let the vet know her weight fluctuates sometimes a little lower to make sure that the 45-88 pounds dosage was safe.
I am not sure at what point after that or how the fleas disappeared but I noticed quickly, they did just that. The fleas do not have to bite your dog in order to die. They are eliminated through your dog's oil glands as the medication is absorbed. Our dog quickly stopped scratching and whining and it became evident that I should have used Frontline in the first place! I intend to use this product on-going. There's no point in trying to cut corners when you know there's a product that does what it's supposed to and makes your furry child comfortable, free from pesky harmful pests, and happy!
