After reading extensively about the carcinogenic risks of bisphenol-A (a common component of plastic baby bottles), I decided to invest in a set of glass baby bottles. This 6 bottle set by Evenflo was the first set of bottles that I picked up, only to learn after purchase that my daycare center forbid glass bottles due to the risk of breakage.

While I can't attest to long-term usage of the bottle for feeding a baby, we did start off with one of these bottles every night when my daughter was about 4 weeks old until she was about 2 months old. She had no trouble at all switching from this bottle to nursing and back again.

Each bottle comes with a latex rubber nipple, a white plastic collar that the latex rubber nipple slips into before being screwed onto the glass bottle, and a white concave "insert" that can replace the nipple if you want to use these bottles for storage instead of feeding. You would first place the insert on top of the glass bottle before you screw the white plastic collar on.

This has a traditional rubber nipple (as opposed to an orthodontic nipple), which my daughter had no trouble using at all. It is smaller than other nipples (e.g., Avent or Playtex) but still worked fine.

The bottles have raised measurement marks on the side, so you can tell how much you have and they don't wear off in the dishwasher. I bought a 6 pack of both the 4 oz and 8 oz bottles but ended up only using the 4 oz bottles since I never pumped more than 5 oz per side (and you can squeeze about 5 to 5.5 oz in here without any trouble). While these bottles have wider mouths, I never had trouble pouring directly from these bottles into storage bags or my Medela storage bottles.

When I learned of my daycare's prohibition of glass bottles, I then used these bottles exclusively for breastmilk storage because I didn't want her to get confused by too many different nipples. My Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump could pump directly into these bottles, which was very convenient as I could then stick the bottles in the dishwasher every night after I emptied the contents into a storage bag or another bottle to bring to daycare.

While there is certainly the risk of breakage and the bottles are heavier to transport than plastic, I am still glad I had these for storage. All in all, even though I wasn't able to use them to directly feed my daughter, it was still worth the investment for me and a reasonable price.
