Pros: A reliable and inexpensive target round.
Cons: As with most ammo of this type, it tends to "shoot dirty."
The Federal American Eagle 9mm Luger 115 gr FMJ ammunition is one of Federal's entries in the "value priced" segment of the handgun ammunition market.
This ammunition is sold in red boxes and packed 50 rounds to the box. The ammo features reloadable brass cases, boxer primers, and a tapered lead bullet fully enclosed in a copper jacket.
The 115 gr bullet weight is one of the common self defense choices for 9mm ammuniiton. While this full metal jacket round is not appropriate for self defense, it is suitable for practice use. Those shooters who use a 115 JHP for a defensive load can shoot this load knowing the point of aim for this practice round should be very similiar to their defensive load due to the identical bullet weight.
The rounded full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet used in this particular load is ideally shaped for reliable feeding through most semi-automatic pistols. Although this rounded projectile does not tear quite as clean a hole in the target as a flat pointed or "wadcutter" bullet, the holes are still easy enough to see and score.
In all other respects this is typical handgun practice ammuntion. The performance is the same as any other Full Metal Ammo. I have found it to be reliable in use and as accurate as any FMJ in this price range.
The only problem with this load is, like most other inexpensive target loads, it uses a more economical propellent and "shoots dirty." Expect to have to clean more grit and unburned powder out of your pistol after shooting this round.
For the price, this is a good choice for those shooters who want a 9mm 115 gr FMJ practice round. It is directly comparable to the other 115 gr FMJ loads by the other manufacturers and is usually competitive in price.
