Pros: Protects and filters your cam in exemplary fashion! Highly scratch resistant! The best at $20!
Cons: There are no cons to this product whatsoever!
The Bottom Line: There are many excellent uv filter/protectors on the market at very reasonable prices. For my money, this one ranks among the very best especially at its ridiculously low price!

| sam-pro's Full Review: ACCESSORIES CRYSTAL OPTICS MULTICOATED UV FILTER |
Walk into your favorite camera shop these days and you're bound to be amazed if not bewildered at how far modern technological advances have heightened the art of filming and picture taking! If your dealer displays only a few models then do not expect him or her to have a whole bunch of accessories on hand. However, if there are twenty plus neatly displayed models of both cameras and camcorders each, then more than likely your friendly dealer will have a sizable variety of the most overlooked and forgotten product I'm about to speak of.
A uv or ultraviolet filter not only clears up haziness and waviness caused by the sun's ultraviolet rays but for a small sum of money also protects your cam's very expensive main lens by shielding it from rocks, pebbles, moisture and dirt [sand from the beach?]. Not only that, it can greatly filter garbage from indoor arena lighting for filming your sibling's hockey, basketball or soccer game...not to mention other indoor activities of importance such as various church events, graduations and parties. The uv lens simply greatly reduces and in some cases eliminates the glare one would normally see on playback of the tape or in the print.
Did you know that hot humid weather can produce some waviness in pictures and videos? It can and usually does! The uv filter/protector here again can help in eliminating most of this most unwanted effect. Humidity can washout a great deal of color! See how much bluer that blue uniform looks with the filter in place on one of these days! Reds are also brighter. The filter itself appears to look clear but nonetheless performs its mission admirably!
Without the uv filter in place, pictures somehow appear to be less clear than ones taken with the filter on. It's easy to deal with. The item is double threaded and simply screws onto the threads of your cam's main lens and can remain on the cam permanently or removed easily if you so desire. I prefer to keep my Crystal Optics uv filter on at all times. Do thoroughly clean your camera's lens with appropriate tissue and solution before doing so! The extra threads on the uv filter are for other lenses you may want to use such as wideangle, telephoto or polarized.
Crystal Optics Multicoated UV Filter cleans up haziness and waviness caused by the sun in exemplary fashion rendering first rate videos or stills regardless of format. Packaged in a plastic round foam lined container inside a slim black and gold box, it is manufactured in Japan as opposed to Taiwan or Korea like many others. The filter is available in attractive black or silver rings. A 15 year warranty instead of the usual 90 day guarantee is offered! The price for such quality is low at $20.
Manufacturer's quote: "These filters, manufactured from the finest solid optical glass, are ground and polished to the most practical thinness. In addition, they are heat-treated to avoid any distortion or focal shift and each filter is subject to strict tests in order to ensure a perfect even surface which is essential to a good filter."
This claim is so highly obvious upon ownership. My latest Crystal Optics UV Filter/Protector is for my Magnavox VHS camcorder that I use to film football...49mm.
It seems to me that this highly polished multi-coated scratch resistant lens offers the best and longest life of all filters I have used these past 14 years! Even if you cannot find your cam's proper size from the numerous sizes available, there is bound to be an appropriate adapter to make the next size up work. The co. supplies 6th Ave Electronics stores and offers other filters along with adapters in many sizes.
Thanks for giving this humble servant your precious time and all comments are most welcome as you are yourself!
