I finally found a hi-fi store in Los Angeles that was willing to order these headphones so I could try them on and listen. This was at the risk of my not even buying them.
I showed up to the store with the CD mix that I usually assemble in order to test out headphones. On this CD I have bass frequency tests, tweeter tests, bassy rap, full bodied classical, distorted grunge, pop, and alternative pop.
Needless to say I was blown away! This is a gigantic step up from the headphones I previously owned (refer to my Sony MDR 700DJ review). The sounds produced from these things was amazing.
The first time I encountered these headphones was when I interned at a recording studio in Orange County. There was a gentleman who came in that owned these exact headphones. I couldn't understand why he would shell out 600 dollars for these headphones. (he even told me he got a good price!) Then I tried them on, leaving me with a craving for more.
If you are in the business of audio referencing, pleasurable music listening. Whatever your purpose is, these headphones are great!
I recommend these to anyone who has the money and is willing to spend it on audio equipment.
These headphones sound much better than my home theatre. In fact as I type this review I am wearing these headphones. They work well with all different audio sources (CD, LP, 8Trak, Casette, MD, and DAT)
The only thing I can say is try these headphones on and I dare you take them off!
