Apple's new os nicknamed "Tiger" is by far the best so far. Apple has introduced new features including spotlight, dashboard, automater, safari 2.0, and quicktime.
My favorite new feature is by far: Dashboard. This application is hidden until you call it. When you call it (F12) it displays colorful "widgets". These widgets are small applications that display information about anything. What is the weather forecast? Check dashboard. Want to find out what a word means? Check dashboard. Dashboard is your source for quick information. Mac OS X comes stock with several widgets including: Address Book, Calendar, World Clock, Weather, Calculator, Dictionary, Google Search, ESPN, Stocks, etc. But you are not limited to these widgets, there are over 1000 free widgets on Apple's site and other places on the internet! That is not a small number! But enough with dashboard, what other features does Tiger have to offer?
Spotlight: Spotlight is a quick search engine. You can search you computer no matter what program you are in. No matter what time. Spotlight searches not only filenames, but the content within documents. And you would assume that this would take along time, but it is only 1 second until you find the thing you want! That is one quick search engine. The results are organized by category. So you can instantly tell what the file is. This is a great feature. You might even find your self using spotlight for every program, or document you ever open. Even if you know where it is!
Safari 2.0 (aka Safari RSS): Safari RSS has quite a few new features. The main one (as per title) is the ability to read RSS feeds. What are RSS feeds do you ask? Any blog you visit has an rss feed so that you can quickly read new entries without going to the site they are at. It also tells you how many you are new since you last read your news. Also it functions better on websites. It supports more of the advanced features on the web these days.
Automater: Automater is a new program that makes common tasks easy. Say you want to create a task that renames all of your pictures in a folder to a certain name. Say you want to send invitations to a list of people automatically on a certain date. Automater can do it. This is not a very commonly used feature, but it sure is powerful. And you might think that because it is so powerful, it might be hard, but it is incredibly easy to use. This is another great key feature in Mac OS X.
Quicktime 7: Apple has also included Quicktime with OS X. Some new features with Quicktime include: High Definition (HD) video viewing. This new Quicktime version is extremely good at viewing HD movies. So now you can watch all of those Quicktime Movie Trailers in HD.
These are not the only new features with OS X, but they certainly are the best ones. This is by far the best release of Macintosh ever.
