Pros: Cushioning like cloud 9, no muss-no fuss, stay clean
Cons: for me a high retail price (wait for sale), drab colors
The Bottom Line: Great cushioning, easy to use straight out of the box, never leaves you wanting more. Get them while you can.

| rookshark's Full Review: ASICS Gel Nimbus VI Cushion Running Shoes - Mens T... |
First, let me say that I at any one time have at least five pair of running shoes, and I like to mix things up. However, over the past several years, I have found myself going to the Asics well more and more. This shoe is no different. In fact, I like them so much, I bought a second pair. Size 16 and 15 in fact (colors White/Navy/Silver and Silver/Storm/Royal) . Did I mention I am a rather large fellow? Heavy too, so cushioning and feeling good at the end of an hour or more run is very important. I do not usually have problems with stability, and usually do not need a particularly wide or narrow shoe, I am fairly normal. The only thing I change in most of my shoes after wearing them a few times is putting in a Sof Sole for even better cushioning, unless the shoe is a bit narrow. I put a pair in these shoes after the first wearing or so, and they made a great ride even better with no negative consequences.
I will include at the bottom the description of the technical details on this shoe, which if you are really interested, you can find elsewhere, like Eastbay (until they quit carrying the VI) or at Asics own website if you want to see any differences the updates to the Nimbus VII. I do not own the VII yet, so going only by what I read, the only major updates I can see are a Space Trusstic System which is supposed to improve natural foot function. Otherwise, all the same technology is used in both shoes. If you know Asics, they are not revolutionary in change from year to year once they have a good thing. So, if you want the latest, go for the VII, but if you want basically the same shoe much cheaper, pick up a discounted VI.
Using the Nimbus for running could not be easier. I must admit that the colors are not what I would call my favorites, but I never have to clean them either, they always look the same. Even the white midsole with its crackle design seems to just not get as dirty. Granted, I am not trailing running or deliberately going through puddles, but still, my other shoes show dirt more than these do.
No real maintenance issues to report after many months of use. I have seen the inside of both shoes at different points have some scuffing to the midsole, but this could be due to my running gait, not the shoes themselves. Regardless, it is minor, and does not affect the shoe.
In other words, this shoe is definitely no muss, no fuss. Shoe strings even stay tied once done. Not like some of my Adidas (unfortunately Epinions does not have the Adidas Clima Revolution up for review, otherwise I would be posting quite a different review than this one for that shoe). Again, it is a pleasure when these shoes come up in the rotation. Almost enough to make me want to stop wearing my other shoes and focus on these.
Performance: Great cushioning in these shoes. Especially notable when directly putting them on after any other shoe, be it basketball, running, or whatever. Not as springy as Nikes Air, but more like a comfortable pillow. Great response running as well, not sacrificing that spring like effect for overly done cushioning. Your feet feel good, and yet, you get a good responsive shoe to help motivate you along (again, I wish I could post a review of those latest Adidas I have, but I digress).
Weight on these shoes really is not a factor for me (remember, I am a large individual). I really do not notice what I can only assume is the increase in weight of the shoe compared to some of my other shoes I have
especially when they are on my feet. Nor do I feel the weight (again, if they are heavy) after running 10 miles or more. Same as the first step. So this is also good
good cushioning and no weight penalty in how they feel or fatigue your legs.
Stability is good. I do not trail run much, but the roads I traverse here have plenty of dips, holes, bumps, etc. I am not usually focused on stability shoes or needing pronation help one way or another. This is for neutral gait runners, and that fits me. As far as protection from rock bruises or just uneven pavement, they have performed great.
I do not run at night, so the 3M reflectors that many shoes have are nice, but not necessarily needed for me most of the time. I do like the rainbow effect plastic near the heel counter in these shoes. They reflect or shine pretty well, especially as you run, and while I try to steer clear of traffic, do plant in the back of my mind that should I wander too close, besides my bright yellow T-shirt, that those driving will have an even better chance of seeing me. Some brighter colors or different colors would be welcome, but really, that is nit picking on what otherwise is a great shoe.
Any downsides? Well, there is that $120 retail price. As much as I like these, I am reluctant to spend that much money for my running shoes. If that does not bother you, fire away. I waited patiently and picked mine up for $40 and $60. And no, not just because of my size was I so fortunate. If one is patient, sales come, and you can pick them up then (or now, as the VIIs are out).
Asics technological alphabet soup here looks good on paper, sounds ever so scientific and cool, and in case you forget it, there are even reminders printed in various spots on the shoe. What really matters is whether or not they work, and in this case, they do. Whether you are going to run 20 miles in them, just a few miles, or just for casual wear, you wont go wrong with these shoes. What more could you want?
