Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:portable, small, lightweight
Cons:It has Vista, needs constant maintenance
The Bottom Line: For a child, buy it - for an adult - NOT A CHANCE..slow machine, no cd/dvd drive.
On my daughters 10th birthday she got lots of birthday money. She decided to make a very grown up decision and to purchase her own computer. Luckily for her Staples was having an amazing sale and it was under $250. She bought the computer on her 10th birthday.

My daughter uses this computer every day. She writes her homework on the computer, she surfs Facebook like every other tween. The computer has Vista installed which made it a little difficult for her to navagate through the menu at first. My daugher was tought to use a computer on the old standard Windows XP. Let's face it, Vista still confuses me.
Anyway - once she learned to navagate Vista, she was able to use many of the programs pre installed on the computer. She takes it everywhere, it only weighs about 2 pounds...it's very small and can even fit into a purse.
There is a downside. The netbook does not have a cd/dvd slot. So you can't play dvd's or cd games. You can't load any games or movies or anything onto the netbook in the usual way. You have to go online and email whatever programs you want added to the machine. It is a pain because it takes many steps to do it and if you aren't computer savvy then you are going to get pretty aggravated trying to get games and such on the machine.
Also, it seems that if you don't clear out the temporary files just about every day, then the computer slows significantly. We use a wireless router in the house and I notice that just about every day I have to clear out the temp files and do maintenance on the netbook. This is annoying...who has time for it.
Overall, it is a good option for a child who is wanting her first computer. It's definately a space saver, you can carry it around.
