Recently we found ourselves looking to replace our sons computer monitor, his small 17” flat screen was getting old and it finally died. That left us a bit concerned because he is homeschooled and that means he does much of his school work from his computer.
So that meant I had to scramble to find a suitable replacement in order for him not to fall too far behind on his school work. I began my search online and find a great deal on a 23” flat screen from Asus. Since I am very familiar with the brand, I was quite confident that it would be a great choice.
The model we decided on was the Asus VH232 23” Widescreen LCD Monitor. By the time you get to the end of the review you will know enough about this monitor to make an informed decision on whether or not it is right for you.
Asus VH232H 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor
After ordering it online we waited for it to arrive and fortunately we did not have to wait too long. Because we needed it in a hurry, I did not mind paying the extra money to get it expedited.
The monitor was packed in a typical thin box which meant that the base had to be attached to the monitor panel. Fortunately this was pretty easy to accomplish and once attached it sat on his desk fairly stable.
One of the reasons we selected the VH232H model was because it not only has the standard DB15 SVGA input, DIgital DVI input, but ASUS also included a HDMI input. With the HDMI connector we were able to connect it to the HD cable box in his bedroom. That made it possible for him to share the large screen between his computer during the day and watching TV after his school work was done.
One thing I did not have to worry about when it came to this new monitor was whether or not it would work with his video card. This is because we had to replace it with more powerful one so he could play the more graphic intensive games.
The ASUS VH232H features a native 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and true 1080p HD, which makes it awesome for both his high graphic games like the new Sim City, Grand Theft Auto and the Just Cause series and HD television programing.
From the minute we hooked it up for him our son was super thrilled with his new monitor. He could not get over the difference between his old 17” Dell monitor and the new ASUS. That of course could be the huge difference in size between the massive screen of this 23-inch monitor versus the tiny little 17” screen.
My Final Thoughts
As it turns out this was one of the best purchases we could have made under the circumstances. It worked out perfect that it was it able to do double duty for our son and therefore save us some money in the long run.
The high contrast ratio (20,000:1) really enhances the clarity of the screen, it really makes the colors pop off the screen. This makes his video games more realistic and the HD broadcast television much more impressive.
The integrated speakers really come in handy since he uses it as his TV and the HDMI connects it directly to the HD cable box. Though they are the not best sounding, we will have time to find a decent set of speakers at a later time.
It has been a few weeks since we set up his new monitor and he has had no complaints. With that said, I would highly recommend the ASUS VH232H 23” widescreen LCD monitor to everyone.
