Did You Know They Make Junk Food for Bettas? Atison's Betta Food
Written: Apr 28, 2012 (Updated Apr 28, 2012)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:healthy, enhances color, fresh, highest quality
Cons:pellets hard to get on spoon
The Bottom Line: One of the healthiest food for Betta fish, this one blows many of the other ones out of the competition. Betta Fish love it and thrive on it too!
We have had a Betta fish in our home (or more) for about 15 years. Over time we have learned a lot and seen a lot of products come and go. One of the first things I was shocked to learn was the ingredient list of some of the fish foods! Sugar, Saccharin, corn, and some of the other ingredients in the fish food are foods I would not feed my kids let alone my fish!
WHAT IS ATISON'S BETTA FOOD LIKE?
When I set out to find a truly good food for betta fish, I found Atison's Betta Food from Ocean's Nutrition to be one of the only foods for Betta fish that didn't have junk food ingredients in it. The food comes in a small square container with a little blue lid on top. The weight is 15g and that is the size you need to get unless you have more than one fish. The product inside is made from tiny pellets which smell good when fresh and there is a tiny spoon inside so you don't have to touch the food with your fingers. The idea is that you replace the jar with a fresh one after 6 months so you don't want to get a larger container unless you have a lot of fish to feed.
HOW DOES ATISON'S BETTA FOOD PERFORM?
As soon as I changed our betta's diet to Atison's Betta Food, I saw an instant change in him. He got more energy, lots of color, and he seemed much happier and healthier too.
The little pellets float on the top, and as tempting as it may seem, you don't want to give them more than 5 or 6 a day because Betta fish can and will die from over eating (I know from experience). Once they are in the water for a bit, then they will get softer and the Betta fish will eat them and chew them up. However, some of our Bettas would never wait that long and would gobble them up as soon as they hit the water.
These did not cloud the water and are supposed to be one of the most nutrient complete foods for the Betta species. It is supposed to have been thorougly tested too.
From my experience, I have to say it is the best Betta food, although from time to time it is quite hard to get the pellets on the spoon, but that is a minor problem.
INGREDIENTS
Fish meal, cereal meals, krill meal, minerals, vitamins, and preservatives (calcium propionate, ethoxyquin).
FINAL COMMENTS
You can find Atison's Betta Food at some pet stores such as Petco and online at Amazon.com for around $3 a jar. It is well worth the investment and your Betta will be much happier than with so many of the other Betta foods out there that are truly junk food and make them sick. We have used this food for quite a few years now, and through several fish and the results have been wonderful.
I must say here, however, that I prefer the Atison's Betta Pro food but at this time it is very hard to get. The regular Atison's Betta Food is a decent alternative and our Bettas have all liked it, although they preferred the Betta Pro.
