| travelplus's Full Review: AT&T U-verse |
U-Verse has to be the best service out there. Our family was fed up with Comcast after they cut our channels and the internet service was down for long periods of time. I had heard about U-Verse back in May 2007 and decided to wait some time to switch to U-Verse while they worked out their kinks in the Bay Area.
Installation: We had an issue where the installer was supposed to come between 12 and 2. He never showed up so I called U-Verse more than once to see the status. So the installer finally came at 5;30 PM and he tried running the cable but claimed our crawl space had rats which it did not. He broke the lock on the crawlspace door. So he said someone will come the next day. BTW This installer did not answer my questions he had an Ipod with earphones while on the job.
The next morning I could not be there but my father was and the second installer could not run the wires and had my father do it. After all this mess I called U-Verse and they gave us $100 dollars off the bill.
What we ordered:
Internet with Pro 3 MB Speed and U-Verse 200 TV with 1 DVR 1 Standard Cable Box
The Internet is fast and we are close to the VRAD so we can get the highest speds. I can laready tell a difference from Comcast the pages seem to load faster and we don't have any down time or need to unplug and re plug the router and modem. On Comcast we were loosing our DNS signal. You can also visit any Starbucks or ATT Hotspot and use the internet free of charge. This was the major selling point since if you figure you pay $15 for a day pass by the time you used 2 days you could get the internet for the whole month. Since I travel with my laptop this service beats Comcast.
The tv is cool and I love the DVR. You can record up to 4 programs at one time during the same time period. There is no more" Oh no I want to record Ameria's Next Top Model and the News at the same time. You can record 2 SD and 2 HD or 4 HD or 4 SD TV. We currently have the U-200 with standard definition channels. We do not need any more channels at this point.I also like being able to setup my recording from the internet, If yoyou have an ATT wireless phone you can also setup your recordings as well.
I love the fact that you can watch DVR programs on the non-DVR TV which makes it eaiser for my parents to watch a movie and I can watch my HGTV. The pause, rewind and playback features work like a charm.
I also like the U-BAR weather and stock market quotes, Yahoo Pictures, and Yahoo Games.
The channels they let you have for U-200 are enough to keep you going we may upgrae to U-300 or 400 if we see the need.
The other neat feature is their Pay Per View movies come out the same day it is released on DVD. For $2.00-$4.00 you can get a movie either for a 1 day or 3 day rental .There are so many selections to choose from.
The free On-Demand movie trailers, tv shows and VH1 Classic is cool and I love the On-Demand music videos.
URGE Music Channels:
U-Verse has teamed up with Urge to offer cool music channels . I love the MTV TRL and other music selections We have setup our home entertianment center and hooked up the box to the receiver so the tv can be turned off and we can have the music on in the background.
Picture Quality:
The picture quality is better than Comcast. You can see the richenss display on the TV. I like this better than Comcast.
Sound Quality:
The cable box has built in Dolby Digital and with the reciever tv never sounded better.I love the sports games and the cooking shows. We had no diigtal box with Comcast so the sound was not as good.
Overall verdict;
U-Verse has so many features for the price. I would not go back to Comcast. The U-Verse customer service is paitent and they are based in America so that makes it eaiser to serve the customers. I would reccommend U-Verse to anyone who wants to take tv and the internet to a higher level.
U-Verse phone:
We do not have U-Verse phone but you can add it for $25 dollars for 1,000 minutes amonth or $30 for unlimited calling. You can add your cellphone to the voicemail or have up to 8 voicemail boxes for the family. You can be alerted when a new message arrives and listen to it via email.
