| tommycupcake's Full Review: Michael K. Deaver - A Different Drummer: My Thirty... |
Mike Deaver has given us a mostly fun and sometimes sad look into the personality of Reagan. There are a lot of personal stories that give insight as to how Reagan came to be widely regarded as one of our greatest presidents.
Deaver was like a brother to Reagan, the closest person to him after Nancy. Deaver shows how Reagan was happy to be alone with Nancy, and was a fairly solitary person content to spend his evenings reading books and briefing papers. Deaver busts the "amiable dunce" bubble, and explains how it came about. In fact, Deaver blames himself for setting the president up for the label.
This book is all positive, no attacks except those that Deaver makes on himself. This is not a tell-all, but a book for fans. If you want dirt or history, look elsewhere.
