mattyd5's Full Review: Tennessee Williams - A Streetcar Named Desire: A P...
I had heard so much about Tennessee Williams, but never had the chance to read his most famous work, "A Streetcar Named Desire". Luckily, I got the chance when I was pressed for time to read a book on my English class's reading list.
Truthfully speaking, I chose this book because I was pressed for time. My friend recommended that I read this book because it was short and easy to understand (the language is "modern"). I was apprehensive, but once I began reading it, I was so elated to discover it to be a fine example of a classic book of the highest dramatic caliber. Williams analyzes the characters without going overboard. The setting is basic, but the dialogue between characters is excellent. This is perhaps its biggest draw to me. I easily become exasperated with the difficult Old English language of works by Dante or Shakespeare, so "A Streetcar Named Desire" was a relief will still maintaining an enduring quality.
The story takes place near Louisiana. Stella and Stanley Kowalski are a young, married couple living in a sparse apartment. When Stella's unwed sister, Blanche, arrives, the trouble begins. However, what is most interesting is the way the characters are displayed and the uncovering of what the real problem is.
