Harriet's Full Review: Tami Hoag - A Thin Dark Line
Dust to Dust
Tami Hoag
Bantam
In Minneapolis, police detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska investigate the death of Internal Affairs police officer Andy Fallon. The corpse contained a note saying "Sorry" and had a rope wrapped around the neck. Apparently, Andy was gay and planned to come out of the closet. The Internal Affairs cop was also inquiring into the beating death of another gay officer.
Most of the Minneapolis Police Department believes that the two gay cops killed themselves and the autopsy sustains that theory. However Sam and Nikki have doubts as it seems to simple to believe that two cops committed suicide because of their sexual preference especially since all indications are that Andy was coming clean. As the brass pressures Sam and Nikki to shut the case, they risk their lives to bring a violent individual to justice.
In Ashes to Ashes, Sam and Nikki joined by FBI agents John Quinn and Kate Conlan worked together on the Terminator serial killer. While The Feds went on to new professions, Sam and Nikki continue to be a cohesive team. These cops make Dust to Dust an enjoyable police drama. The story line is loaded with action, but it is Sam and Nikki who keep the plot afloat. Renowned for her romantic suspense thrillers, Tami Hoag moves into another genre that her romance fans will still enjoy though no love subplot occurs in this novel. Readers who relish an internal police investigation tale will delight in Ms. Hoag's change in direction.
