Sara, I can't blame her. They did the classic "Oh, we can blend the first two books into one" move and it was atrocious. Beyond bad.

Hehehe, feel free. ;D And I think it's good to tackle the task even knowing it may not yield in the highest results. Good luck with the rest of the books!

Should I not say "chicken?" :)

Hopefully, I'll do a better job with the other books in the cycle. I agree that it had a lot of set-up for the other books, which could contribute to my problems reviewing it. There are some reviews I attempt and know I'm probably going to get mixed ratings... I'm still going to challenge myself to do them. :)

I haven't read this, but I did see an article by LeGuin at Slate.com about how annoyed she was with the Sci Fi network version. Now my curiosity is piqued, so maybe I'll check it out...

Yeah, there's no shame in an H. I read this book recently for the first time, and it is difficult to talk about. Like you said, a lot of the action is really internal and it feels very much like the beginning of a series. I haven't read the sequels, but I get the impression that this book is more of a set-up for the following books than a proper standalone story.

And as you can see, I didn't tackle the task of reviewing this book, which tells you something. ;D

It's okay, Victoria... I'll take the H standing up.

It's a difficult book to review because so much of the plot deals with Ged's self-reflection on his journey. It isn't wall-to-wall action, so it's hard to give much more on it without giving it all away, and I really struggled walking that line on this one.

Like sleeper54, I so often find myself the lone helpful of the bunch...

I enjoyed reading your review, but if I hadn't read the book I don't know that I would have found this review complete enough to know whether the book was worth reading. That's just me...
