Pros:easy to use, works, inexpensive
Cons:have to get on the floor
The Bottom Line: I like the Ab Rocket. It's effective, small, light and it folds.
As usual when I saw the Ab Rocket Abdominal Trainer I was skeptical. However for $100, this easy to use machine works. If you read my reviews you will know that I believe the same results will occur with traditional crunches and other crunch moves without any equipment. What I like about the Ab Rocket is its ability to keep me in excellent form and it makes doing crunches fun.
What is it?
This is a simple to use and small machine. It weighs somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds so it is easily carried. It measures 26.5 x 7.5 x 14.5.
It is not unlike many machines I have reviewed which you can find here.
Its purpose is of course to tone the abdominal area also known as the core if you take Pilates classes.
What it comes with and how it is used:
It comes with DVDs, workout programs, and a meal plan.
The Ab Rocket folds flat and can be put just about anywhere easily.
There are a couple of features I particularly like. Unlike some abdominal machines that have low backs, the Ab Rocket has a nice high back which supports my neck. I also like that the padded rollers actually roll and feel good going up and down my back. The back is adjustable and should be able, in my opinion, to handle any height.
It comes with three resistance levels. These are small cylinders that attach to each side of the machine sort of like a spring. Each one makes my crunch movement harder.
The padded seat is very comfortable. One concern you may have is whether you can get down on the floor. Unlike some machines, such as the Ab Lounge, you will have to sit close to the floor to use the Ab Rocket.
Every kind of crunch can be done. I can do side crunches working the muscles on the sides of my body (obliques); I can do biking movements like I would do in Pilates holding each leg in for a moment (a slow bike motion); and any kind of ab exercise that I do on the floor or with a machine I can do on the Ab Rocket.
All I have to do is hold on to the rounded handles and come forward in a crunch movement. The nice thing about the Ab Rocket is that the Rocket gives me the correct posture.
If you are looking for an inexpensive exercise piece this is a nice one. I enjoyed using it and certainly felt my abdominal area working.
