| star-child's Full Review: Abita Purple Haze |
Well as a former bartender I know how difficult it is to convince the hard-core beer drinker to try a flavored beer but most of the people I got to try this one liked it. I won't lie not every hard core drinker liked it and some just plain refused to try it because the didn't want to be seen drinking a feminine beer I suppose but most that did try it were surprised.
For a raspberry beer I think Abita's Purple Haze is the best. I myself am not a big flavored beer drinker but this beer just plain won me over. The next really almost shocking thing I discovered is that it makes a realllllyyyyy good Black and Tan ( or as we called them at O'Malley's Black and Blue ). For some reason it seems to be perfect when Guinness is layered over top of it. It doesn't over power the Guinness it merely takes a little of the bite off and leaves you with a hint of sweet raspberries.
When I get to my local pub that’s what I usually get is a Black and Blue and I know it's made right because I used to be the Head bartender there before I joined the Police force and I trained the guy that took my place. Abita has got a winner in this micro made in Louisiana! next time your out have your bar tender make you a Black and Blue. If they give you a funny look tell them that replace the Harp or whatever they are layering the Guinness on with Abita's Purple Haze!!
