I do not like beer. It is that easy. I do not know what made me try Abita Purple Haze: maybe it was because I was thirsty and there was nothing else to drink, maybe I was bored, maybe because I liked the Hendrix reference, maybe because I liked the pretty purple on the label. I cannot remember the reason that I tried my first Abita, but I am glad I did. Frankly, because I do not like beer in general, I am not a beer expert, but I will do my best to describe Purple Haze in layman's terms. Light. No aftertaste. Fruity (They use raspberries as shown on the label. I do not personally like raspberries, but Purple Haze just tastes light and generally "fruity"). I actually get cravings for this beer when I am eating pizza or fried foods like fish or french fries.
Purple Haze will be one of the things I will miss when I leave New Orleans. I have got to get one of those cool t-shirts or bumper stickers at the Abita Brew Pub on the other side of Lake Pontchatrain. Purple Haze is sold at almost every bar and grocery store in New Orleans. However, I have found a pretty good substitute for Purple Haze outside of the Louisiana area: Oldenburg Brew.
