toponceblue's Full Review: Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment .07oz
Recently I graduated from high school and went on a senior trip to Hawaii. Yes, it was fabulous!
After returning home to Utah I experience a number of break outs, including cold sores. I guess after spending 8 days in the humid environment in Hawaii, returning to the dry climate in Utah just didn't settle well.
One morning after returning home I could feel that burning slightly tingling sensation you get when a cold sore it about to burst out of your upper lip. No way! I couldn't be getting a cold sore too. If any of you have had a cold sore, you know that they are very painful and are extremely embarrassing as your lip develops this blister that just keeps expanding your lip. Nothing seems to relieve the pain and trying to cover the growth with lipstick doesn't work either. It just looks like you completely missed your lip with the lipstick.
I quickly informed my mother of my situation. Usually she has a prescription medication on hand, but as luck would have it we were out and there were no refills left. She took me to the local drug store and we explained to the pharmacist the problem I had encountered. Without hesitation she told us she recommended Abreva and that it seemed to work as well if not better than the prescription medications. Luckily, Abreva happened to be on sale at the time and they had one package left. Hoping for a miracle, that it would actually work, we headed home to give it a try. Putting it on five times a day might be a challenge to remember, however, having a cold sore previously I knew I never wanted to experience that again.
Wow! Catching my cold sore early and using Abreva Cold Sore Treatment did the trick. I was pleasantly surprise and very grateful. Within a few hours I could tell my cold sore was not going to continue to grow and the pain was significantly reduced. Within a few days there was a very small scab left and the pain had completely gone away!
HOW IT WORKS: The Active Ingredient in Abreva is (10%) Docosanol a common cold sore medication. On the package it says it will shorten the healing time as well as tame the pain. I was amazed! It actually did everything that it claimed.
DIRECTIONS: Apply to the affected area at the first sign of cold/fever blister. Early treatment is preferred for best results. Rub into affected area gently but thoroughly 5 times a day until completely healed. This means completely healed, don't give that cold sore the benefit of the doubt, they are relentless. Often times the returning of the tingling feeling reminded me it was time to reapply.
COST: Abreva comes in a small (very small) .07 ounce tube and costs between $12.00 and $15.00, depending on if you can find it on sale. Even though the tube is small I found that you use such a small amount each time that it is actually enough for 3 or 4 break outs. Let's not hope that on anyone, but it can happen.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions about Abreva there is a toll free phone number on the package. Abreva is also made in the USA. I don't know about you, but this was a plus for me. Support the USA!
In my opinion, Abreva is a Great! solution to curing that Irritating and painful cold sore. Best of all, it is fairly easily available. This ensures the opportunity to purchase Abreva at the very first sign of a cold sore.
