Time to get rid of that sympathy weight

Pros: Helps to motivate, somewhat lethargic individuals.
Cons: Won't work unless you really put forth the effort, obviously.

It works for me (Reply to this comment)

First of all let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am 28, 5'9" tall and at the beginning of the program I weighed 193 pounds. I work in an office environment where the office gals are always baking cookies/pies.

I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease and my blood pressure was generally 145/105.
I started the book for obvious reasons being concerned with my health. I read it twice before making any application. Basically my first step was copying down the recommended grocery list and running to the store. This proved to be a difficult task as the book outlines foods to stay away from. Especially Partially Hydrogenated oils. Which are common in a lot of foods. However the foods recommended are quite good tasting so that kept me going. I added running for 30 min every other day to my daily norm and cut down the beer to 2 a sitting. That is pretty much all I did and am continuing on losing weight. I have lost 23 pounds in 6 weeks and my blood pressure has dropped to 135/75. My goal is still someday to see my abs and I hope to attain something close in the next 6 weeks.

Overall the book is not a new theory. However it is presented in a helpful way that keeps you motivated.
I would definitely recommend this book.

I am thinking about getting this book as I have 50lbs to lose after 2 kids. It has been 5 yrs now and I have not lost. I was on a yoyo thing when i did low-carb and now I have severe back issues so I do not knwo what kind of exercises this book tells you to do but I will have to modify them. I am 32 yrs old and I have osteoperosis as well as 7 herniated discs in my back. I am still young and wnat to look and feel great again despite the back problems. I will have to write my on review after about 3 weeks on this diet/exercise plan to show what it will do for a person in my condition and with my odifications! :)

Abs Diet (Reply to this comment)

My husband and I are on week 2 of the Abs Diet. We've been folowing it strictly and have begun the exercises (you don't have to begin the exercises until week 3).

It's had a big impact in terms of how we are feeling. We both have more energy and just feel healthier. However, we have each only lost 2 pounds. This is a bit discouraging because the book says you should expect a significant weight loss in the first 2 weeks. We're going to keep plugging away though and hope we can see our abs in five weeks time!

I would definately recommend the book as a healthy eating and exercise plan. The recipes are delicious and you never go hungry on this diet. I just don't think it's the book for you if your main goal is weight loss.

The one thing you havn't really done in your review is say what the basic premise of this diet is. You've said it's not low-carb, you've said you actually have to do some excercise, but you've said very little about the diet itself.

If you were to correct this oversite I would be happy to reconsider my rating. Email me if you make any changes.

If you want to lose a lot of weight, my diet that I've been using lately is the water diet. You pretty much just drink like 6 of those 20 ounce bottles of water everyday. You'll have to urinate a lot, but the extra water in your body keeps you from eating as much, neutralizes the salt which retains water/fat, and cleanses your system. So, you end up having to reduce portion sizes, and you eliminate all calories brought in through liquids which can be huge in daily consumption. I've a very noticeable amount and I've been doing this for about two weeks now.

The best part is that I can eat pretty much anything still. I just cut back on things like sugar and salt, cut the fat off of my meats, and be sure to include a little extra vegetables in my meals and ALWAYS eat those first.

It works for me! Who knows... maybe I'm just special.

Hey I'm using this "diet" too... (Reply to this comment)

My husband bought this book after reading about it in Men's Health and we're following it just to shed a few pounds after the holidays. It has some really great advice in it. Fortunately our daily meals/food choices were already quite similar to what he advocates although my husband's drinking those protein shakes and lifting weights now, which he didn't before. I enjoyed your review. :-)

All the best - mrs-j
