What ever happened to the plain vodka, whiskey, and beer days? Seems as though every where you turn, its a flavor here and a flavor there. Plenty to select from too. I love Absolut Peppar and wrote about that but was slow to try the vanilla. I am not a large fan of the vanilla taste in anything other than ice cream but being the curious person that I am, I finally had my go with Absolut Vanilla Vodka.
Now, I am not going to tell you that I have fully embraced this vanilla brother of peppar, but I have stepped out with him on more than one occasion and have to say he doesnt make for a boring date. I will say however, he does come back to visit later in the night once the date has ended and I find that to be an undesirable characteristic of his.
Yes, Vanilla has lingering effects and I prefer this not be the case. If I were hitting the Slow Gin, I would expect it to come back up but I do not expect that with Absolut. This does not mean that I do not recommend this somewhat dainty, yet mischievous relative. Quite the opposite. You just better have a constitution of strong resistance, thats all. Most experience back-lash from anything that has a flavor other than the basics of the spirit. This being vodka. Southern Comfort is one that really tears me up and Captain Morgan spiced Rum.
Normally, I would give you a sensual type description of what ever spirit I wanted you to know about but not with this one. What I would really like to do is get a ten year old to write this. The flavor tends to speak to me of high school, Vanilla Coke days. The old vanilla Coke and not this new thing Coca~Cola has put on the market. I like to add my own vanilla, though Vanilla Pepsi isnt so bad.
I mentioned something sweet. This vodka is not sweet though the name would like to deceive you a bit. It contains the hint of sweet and I suppose it is sweeter than a normal or typical vodka. If you mix it with Coke, youll get the basic vanilla effect you would get if you mixed it with Vanilla Coke rather than Classic Coke. In fact, Absolut Vanilla is somewhat bitter but I think it has the right balance of bitter. The aftertaste lasts long and is reminding you to have another drink.
The vanilla taste is true and not artificial. It will have you see vanilla bean and not vanilla extract. The bouquet is strong but not obtrusive. Very sexy really. I guess I can add that much sensuality. I disagree with another about this scent being delicate. Its not. The more you inhale the bigger it gets and the sweeter the vapor. Skip the dessert at dinner time and have an Absolut Vanilla and Coke instead!
I tend to think Absolut is targeting the younger vodka fan by adding the vanilla. Vanilla this and vanilla that is very popular these days. Perfume, soft drinks, recipes, shoot..... you name it, its vanilla. I believe it draws the youthful drinker and alienates the seasoned consumer. Us old folks can learn the ways of the younger generation though. Reminds me of an old joke: Old age and treachery will win out over youth and skill any day. *hee hee* Amen.
As with other Absolut Vodkas, you can expect to pay about $17 to $18 bucks for a 750 ml or about $25 for a ltr. It is worth the price even though I am not its favorite customer. Ill have to stick with Absolut Peppar. The packaging is the same as other Absolut products, just change the name on the label.
Try this hearty vodka out. Purchase the smaller bottle, just in case you hate it and give it away. Try it blended with an assortment of mixtures and then try it alone. Get the full feel and flavor before judging it too harshly.
Absolut Vanilia is made with only natural ingredients. No sugar is added. The taste is rich, robust and complex. It has a distinct character of van...More at Napacabs.com
