In the world of vodkas, it seems to me that you are looking for flavorless alcohol. You want something that when you mix it with Cool-Aid, you still have Cool-Aid, only now you can drunk off of it. The cheapest way to do this would be with a store-brand vodka, which generally serve their purpose to get you drunk. However, if you want a bit less of a hangover, as well as something you can actually drink straight, you might try Absolut it tastes much better by itself and it has less of those high-order alcohols that make people sick. I give this product five stars for being average in price but well above-average in flavor and quality.
To begin with, Absolut is made in Sweden. In order to get its 40% alcohol, it is fractionally distilled. In addition to using the distillation process to get the higher alcohol concentration, Absolut goes further by using the distillation process to get rid of those high-order alcohols, which generally lead to upset stomachs and hangovers. Cheers for less hangovers!
I believe Absolut gets rid of the high-order alcohols better then any brand at its price level or lower, so if it is a hang-over free night you wish, the key is always to drink lightly, and drink something with quality such as Absolut.
As for the flavor, Absolut has one of the more palatable flavors of the vodkas. It is not quite as smooth as Grey Goose, but then it is 10 dollars cheaper, too. It is far smoother then its main competition Smirnoff. For me, I dont need to spend an extra $10 for a little extra smoothness since the vodka is not going to stay long in my mouth anyway.
The beverage pours pretty much like water. You wont notice much of a difference until you put it up to your nose, when you will definitely get the wince of alcohol coming off of the top. I dont notice any additional odors to this one.
However the beverage does have a flavor. Splashing it around your tongue instead of instantly swallowing it will give you a sweet, citrussy flavor. Sometimes the sweetness of a beverage will mask the alcohol flavor as it enters your gullet, but not in this case. You will notice a harsh alcohol aftertaste when you swallow and another when it gets to your stomach. For this reason you might want to chase it with something citrussy.
Absolut has a very odd burn as it goes down it is delayed. With most beverages you swallow, and theres the burn. With Absolut, you swallow, and then you think: hmm, no burn! But then a burn slowly creeps up your esophagus and just as slowly dissipates. Its not the fire out of your ears of some moonshine from Nepal, but it is definitely still there. One important thing, though it doesnt last.
In the end this is a classy beverage. It is very similar to Grey Goose, but is much cheaper. On top of that this is a quality beverage with most of the high-order alcohols removed. This doesnt mean you wont get a hangover if you drink a lot of it, but it does mean you wont get sick after two shots. I give this beverage 5 stars for having an average price, but having a much-above-average flavor and an above-average quality.
