| mwsb98's Full Review: All Star Baseball 2003 for Xbox |
Ok first the bad things: It takes a while to find your way around the menu to what you want. During game play you run into a couple of issues, a lot of times when there is a ground ball, or pop fly, the ball will be not really near the player and it some how magically jumps into their glove that gets really annoying. The outfielders seem to run down everything that goes their way, no matter the angle or speed of the ball. AI on the rest of the game is not the greatest, they make some weird decisions.
Good things: I really enjoy playing this game, it really makes you play baseball. There is no pushing a direction and a button to throw to a base, you just push the button that corresponds to that base. Also you can anticipate a throw, meaning you can push a button before the ball is fielded and once the ball is snagged it the player will throw it. The create a player is nice, just enough detail. The hitting takes a while to get used to, but you adjust fast.
Ok little things: There is a baseball card feature on the game that I find pretty worthless. There is nothing to it, the only thing it is there for is so that you can cash in the points that you win during a game. Other then that it serves no purpose. The trivia game on there is pretty fun, even if you don't know that much about the details of baseball. The homerun derby is pretty lame. Every player wears their hat the same way, and you can win a derby win Ichiro, all you have to do is swith to power mode, don't move your angle or anything and just swing away! The create a team feature is nice, although I will admit I haven't really explored it a whole lot. I did a draft for my season, which means, you put all of the players in a draft and take the ones you want. I really enjoy this option, personal preferance.
Oh yes, on the game you can set your lineup and pitching setup, however occasionally when you play a game your roster will be completely different then what you had set, I don't understand this one. And you can't fix it either, you look at your roster and it is how you want it, then when you go to play, it changes. You can look at the health of your players, but that helps none.
As for trading, you cannot trade two players to one team and only get one in return. I don't really care for this, all of the time in the pros a team trades 3 guys for one pitcher or something like that. All in all it is a lot of fun to play, it's even better once you get over the annoyances.
