My mother has been a diabetic for 30 years now, and I had always watched what i ate, and for symptoms of this dreaded disease. But to my dismay, this past March, I was diagnosed with it.
My doctor suggested that I try the Accu-Check Complete, being one of the newest monitors out.
This monitor is very easy to use, and mine came with the curved strips which makes it so easy to apply the blood. Once you prick your finger with the lancet, you just place the finger on the strip, and the fibers in the curved strip just "sucks" the blood right in! This way, you don't have to re-stick yourself for more blood if you get too little an amount.
It also has a memory in it, which keeps me from having to write it down in a diary. It also has a diary built right in that you can log dates, exercise, food intake, and a variety of things.
It is small, fits nicely in your purse. As the meter is testing your blood a bar comes up and it beeps when its half way through, and finally beeps when it is finished. While this is going on, there is different tips going across the meter to remind you of exercise and eye exams!
It has a light in it which is very nice when your eyesight is bad. It also takes regular batteries which makes it easy to replace them when they go out. Some meters take certain ones that can be costly and you usually have to pick them up at a pharmacy. The strips makes it nice too, because you dont waste any of them trying to hit that little mark where the blood suppose to go.
The lancet that comes with it has a dial on the side so you can pick how hard or light the lancet sticks you. You can experiment and find the right number for you.
I would recommend this meter to anyone that is newly diagnosed with this disease, because it makes the shock of having it much easier to deal with. The convenience alone makes it worth the purchase.
