Ace Elastic Bandage
I have been living with ACE elastic bandages for the past six months. I have used about ten different kinds of these very versatile bandages. I have a sock drawer, T-shirt drawer and ACE elastic bandage drawer. I mainly use two different types; the large three inch ACE Velcro bandage and the smaller two inch ACE bandage with the set of metal claw clips. I mainly use the larger ACE bandages on my leg. I have torn ligaments in my right leg and a large tight ACE wrap provides some pain relief as well as a little stability. I also use the large ACE wrap on my right arm along with a smaller ACE wrap to secure a half cast on my arm and wrist. These bandages work great. When I have my injuries wrapped with ACE elastic bandages, the injuries feel a lot better! They hold my cast in place without fail. When combined with any kind of splint these bandages provide a surprising amount of stability.
First-Aid bags should always have several rolls of ACE bandages. The ACE is one of the handiest medical supplies that a first responder can have. The practical uses are nearly endless! You can secure dressings in place and adjust the pressure to the desired amount. You can secure splints in place. It can also be used as a makeshift sling and swath as well as constriction bands for treating snake bite victims. After applying any kind of splint or pressure bandage, make sure to always check for a distal pulse as well as the capillary refill. You never want to put the ACE bandage on too tight.
The ACE bandages are also washable and rather durable. I have washed and dried many of my ACE bandages several times. The ACE bandages have been around for years and are very reliable. The Army orthopedics clinics use tons of them on their soldiers. One of the reasons being that after a surgery the ACE wraps are placed over the staples or stitches to keep the area clean and stable. Furthermore the ACE bandage will also expand and contract with swelling. I recommend keeping Ace Elastic Bandages in your first-aid kit, medicine cabinet, work, camping gear and your car. They are inexpensive and very handy when you need them!
