Pros: Reliable and reasonably priced
Cons: Colour good but not exceptional
The Bottom Line: In a "standard display" monitor, the thing that really matters is reliability. My dozen AcerView 77c's are batting 1.000 on that score.

| gandalf2001's Full Review: AcerView 77C CRT Monitor |
The AcerView 77c monitor I'm looking at right now is nothing special. I don't even notice it, nor do I notice any of the dozen other identical monitors around my company.
But that's just what I want. In the fall of 1998, when I bought this batch of monitors (along with a number of desktops and other pieces of gear), what I really wanted from the monitors is that they work well, all the time, and never give me any trouble. They never have. It is now about three years, and none have failed or exhibited any signs of degraded performance. They have been operated in a variety of conditions: from the one turned on and off dozens of time every day, to another that is on constantly - 24/7 -, and everything in between. Some are used mainly for word processing, others for spreadsheets, others for powerpoints, others for Internet. In all cases, this monitor performs well, all the time.
Is the picture the best? Probably not, but no-one has complained of eyestrain or inability to read or understand what's on their screen. I've seen more vivid colours, and monitors with fancier controls, and ones that look nicer on the desk (this isn't bad, but it's not a high-tech flat panel display). I've certainly seen monitors that don't weigh as much, and have a smaller footprint.
I guess I don't care about that. I'd rather not spend $1000 a monitor to get something fancy. In a reasonable price range, a good image is a threshold requirement, but the real separator of good from not-so-good is reliability. On this key statistic, the AcerView 77c is batting 1.000. Can't get any better than that.
