craftgun40's Full Review: Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 (LU.S560B.103) Netbook
I recently bought the Acer after having a unpleasant experience with a 9 inch Dell with a Ubuntu operating system. I am actually GLAD I had a negative experience for it sent me off in the direction of the Acer which has a one inch larger screen and for someone that uses reading glasses..the difference between a 9 inch screen and a 10 in screen is major.
I am not a computer techie...so I can only tell you about my experience so far with the mini 10. First off all..it did cost more than the other brand, but it came with a LOT more features and memory and I am thrilled with it.
It has a built in web cam, which is not the greatest quality..but perfect for emails and fun spontaneous pictures. It is fairly easy to use but HOW to use it was a mystery for the manual had no mention of how to turn it on and use it..I had to resort to the internet to find the answer, which was quite simple..you go to My Computer and click on the icon. I had a good time playing with it the first few days and even if I seldom use it, it is still a fun feature to have.
Sound quality is adequate but I seldom use sound unless I am watching a movie.
It came with 1gb ram and 160 gb hard drive, windows xp installed (whew) and a very wonderful and long battery life...about 7 hours. It was wonderful for me, for my husband was in the hospital and I had several long long days with not much to do there. So the Acer really proved to be wonderful with that battery life...I could move around freely and send messages to family etc. and the charge would last the entire day.
It weighs just under three lbs and most of the weight is the battery. I was dismayed at first when I saw the way the battery was set up...you sort of clip it on to the back of the computer, which instantly makes it feel heavy...but after a few days use you dont notice the weight of the battery any longer and to have the extended life of the battery going into 7 or so hours of use, makes up for the feeling of extra weight.
It comes with three usb ports which for such a small notebook I was pleased to see. It also comes with the Intel Atom Processor N270.
It is available in four colors, white, blue red and black...I have the blue one and I find that finger smudges show up a lot no matter how careful you are or how many times you wipe it down.... that might annoy some people.
The Acer performs very well for me and for what I use it for, again I am not a techie...but I have had absolutely no major complaints. A few small gripes but nothing big. The touch pad is quite sensitive and it is hard to do a right and left click...the bar is stiff to the touch but it is set up for tapping, so all you really have to do is tap and navigate around on your computer with the tip of your finger but the left and right clicks are annoying for me.
One of the major things I lke about it, is that it is so portable..it can easily slip into a large purse and for women that could be a plus..if I had it to do over again...would I purchase this same mini again...ABSOLUTELY...I love this little computer.
It has its limitations but a lot are simply because of the size of the screen..detailed photo editing might be cumbersome on the small screen..but for emails, surfing the web, listening to music..using the webcam...it is perfect and I am very happy to own this little notebook.
