Pros: Nice price and a bright display with good contrast.
Cons: Would not work in 1440x900.
No driver for XP or Mac; only Vista.
I wanted to use this monitor in 1140x900 mode but could not get it to work on my computer setup. The monitor plays well in 1680x1050 mode, but that isn't what I want because I have to use reading glasses in that mode. I'm running Windoze XP with SP3 and have the most recent device drivers for the video card.
I have a Dell 380 computer with an ATI FireGL V3100 display card with one VGA analog connector and one digital connector. I was running an Acer AL1916 on the VGA port at 1280x1024, and wanted to add a second monitor using the digital connector; the X193 comes into the picture here.
The 1440x900 mode does not come up as a choice in the list of modes, even though I have un-checked "hide modes the monitor....".
This version of the ATI driver doesn't allow the user to pick a custom mode, like I've seen in the past on other ATI products.
The Acer web site only has drivers for Vista, so I'm stuck using it in a mode that I don't want to use it in. It looks like Acer has gotten in bed with Micro$oft and excluded users of XP or other operating systems. I think Vista is crap and refust to use it at home, and the IT department where I work will not allow us to use Vista; not that I'd want to. (Vista really didn't bring any new major things to the table that XP didn't have, except for minor changes and a different look.)
